The British Standards relating to the Installation of Fire Alarms BS 5839 were revised in 2002 to include measures to limit false alarms. The responsibility for these doesn't just rest with system designers, but you are also required to ensure alarms on your premises are serviced and maintained to limit false alarms. The changes have also changed the way in which False Alarms must also be recorded in your Fire Alarm Log Book. The maximum time allowed between servicing visits is now 6 months and there has to be a written contract of maintenance.
