At Total Testing Services we design and install emergency lighting to BS 5266-1:2005, this is the emergency lighting code of practice for emergency lights in premises. We can also offer contracts for the routine testing if required, plus we can give you advice and help so you conform to the responsibilities for the emergency lights.

Emergency Lighting is essential for the safety of building occupants. It is vital that the emergency lights comes on and give sufficiant light so that the building occupants can safely evacuate when normal lighting fails.

Routine Testing should be as follows:

• DAILY - visual check to ensure that the emergency lighting system is operating correctly and indicators are working. Any faults should be logged and corrected as soon as possible.

• MONTHLY - Check all emergency lights for signs of damage. Do a brief test on the emergency lights to ensure that they operate in the event of a mains failure. Any faults should logged and corrected as soon as possible.

Please note that the above will need to be carried out by the RESPONSIBLE PERSON nominated by the organisation / business to undertake this task.

• ANNUALLY - A full system inspection and duration test of the emergency lighting should be formed by a COMPETENT PERSON this being a person with the necessary skills, training and knowledge to perform the emergency lighting maintenance and servicing. Compliance with the British Standard should be considered and produced in the emergency lighting certification report. Any faults should logged and corrected as soon as possible.

Please note that the Annual Inspection should be undertaken by a Electrical Engineer qualified and experienced in routine inspection and testing of emergency lighting systems
